Reading is super fun! Grab a book!
01. Harpist in the Wind by Patricia A. McKillip: The second book a series and a continuation of
Heir of Sea and Fire. I feel awful for not remembering what it was about, but I do remember something
about an old man playing the harp and it's magical. (harpist = old man playing harp, I suck)
02. The Outlaws of Sherwood by Robin McKinley: The story of Robin Hood retold in an interesting way. I'd say it is
entertaining.
03. The Man in the Iron Mask by Alexandre Dumas: Whoohoo! It's another swords book. But his writing is so beautiful.
I have a thing for French writers. I don't know why.
04. Confession of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire: Wow, this book is good. It's a version of Cinderella that
you probably haven't seen before. The story is told in the words of one of the stepsisters. Yeah, I really like the one of
the stepsisters in this one because she's smart and cool. =)
05. The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs: Entertaining fantasy book.
06. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: This book has the
same magical touch to it like the book Like Water for Chocolate. Basically, it's a
story about a pioneer family and it continues through the 4th generation. Yes, the family
tree can be quite confusing. However, it's interesting enough for reading. Pieces of the book:
a) a man wanted to marry a 9 year-old girl, but she was too young, so they had to wait for her
to reach puberty before the wedding. He married her when she turned 13! b)A boy didn't know
that the old prostitute was his mother, so he was trying to have sex with her (ew).
07. Dinotopia Lost by Alan Dean Foster: I find this book very interesting. It's
inspired by Dinotopia by James Gurney. I haven't read Dinotopia yet, but
I know that it's a hidden world where dinosaurs and humans live side by side. Anyhow, back to
Dinotopia Lost, a pirate ship (Argh) got smashed against the shore of Dinotopia by the storm.
Lucky for the pirates, they survived and explored the island. They found a family of Struthiomimuses
and the captain decided to capture them to bring back to the "regular" world for profit. The rescue
of the dinosaur family was made by a young man, Will, and his friends.
08. Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett: A Discworld novel. A dead king's ghost asked the
three witches to take care of the baby prince because his kingdom was taken over. What did the
witches do? They gave the baby prince to these traveling actors. So, the prince grew up thinking
that he was an actor. Then the dead king came back and he wanted his now grown child to take
over the kingdom again. So began the search for the real king. It's funny.
09. Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat: I actually wanted to read her other book,
but I couldn't find it, so I read this one instead. A little girl left her home in Haiti with her
grandmother to US for a better life and education with her mother. She was conceived because some
man raped her mother. Anyhow, her mother kept having these horrible nightmares about being rape
every single night. The girl went to school and fell in love with the neighbor, but her mother
objected to her love, so she planned a rebellion!
10. The Chocolate War by Rober Cormier: The Vigils, a secret society, of a New England
high school was asked by a teacher to boost sales of the school's annual fundraising chocolate sale.
One of the student, Jerry, refused to join in with the masses to sale chocolates like crazy and he
become the untouchable outcast of the school. The Vigils didn't leave him alone, they haunted him,
beat him up, and did all of the awful things that mean people do to outcast. =(
11. The Day My Butt Went Psycho! by Andy Griffiths: The book is as funny as the title!
Story of a little boy whose butt left him to start a rebellion. The butts want to trade place with
the heads and that was their main goal. So, the boy had to battle the butts, fight the great white butt
to get back his crazy butt and bring the world back to normal. During his chase for the psycho butt,
he met the Kicker, the Slapper, and the Kisser who are all a part of a team to fight the rebellious
butts. Also, there was a girl (ooohhh) and a traitor (dun dun dun).
12. Regina's Song by David and Leigh Eddings: I don't know what is up but I was hecka scared
when I was reading this book. It's not even a horror! But yeah, if you don't have that much of a strong
heart, don't read certain parts at 2:30 in the morning in the dark by yourself! I made that mistake.
hahah... Okay okay, the book. The teen twins went out and one of them got raped and killed. The other
twin was so shocked that she went into the crazy phase where she didn't talk to anyone for a long while.
Mark, a life long friend with the family tried to help the surving twin out and discovered a horrible
secret. I can't tell you anymore because that would totally spoil the book. But, there's a killer
who skins the victims carefully with a knife. 0_o.
13. A Bad Spell in Yurt by C. Dale Brittain: Discover the secret of a small castle with
telephones!
14. Teen Angst? Naaah... by Ned Vizzini: A autobiography of a boy. Such a funny boy he was.
A story of a weird, funny, and nerdy teen. Go read it. I'm waiting for his new book: Be More Chill.
15. The Gilded Chain by Dave Duncan: A Tale of the King's Blades. This is more like the grown up
version of Sir Stalwart because instead of being the king's Daggers, they are Blades. Anyways,
these Blades were orphan, wild kids who were taken in and trained to be the best swordmen out there to
protect the king and be bounded by a powerful loyalty spell. This one specifically focuses on Sir Durendal
who went across the world to seek the truth about another missing Blades and the band of immortal swordmen!
I was ashamed to carry this book around to read not because it's a horrible book but because its cover looks
like a romance book cover! Madness, but this book is still so great. So many twists and turns. :)
16. The Ill-Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton: She writes such beautiful words and descriptions.
I particularly like this book because it's so magical and fairy like. It's not a hard battles and swords sort of
fantasy nor funny, but it's subtle and beautiful and smart. It's about the mystery of the fairy land and the long
lost town, memories forgotten, identity lost, finding oneself, etc.
17. The Human Face by Brian Bates and John Cleese: A totally informative book of facts
and interesting findings on the human face. You'll never look at the human face in the same light
again. Oy, maybe that was exasperating, but it was quite interesting. I learn tons of stuff from
this book.
18. Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix by J.K.Rowling: ...and the adventures of the-boy-who-lives continues!
My favorite yet the saddest book of all of the five books so far. So so sad. I can't tell you anything because that
would ruin the whole book!!!!!!!! No spoilers!
19. Lord of the Fire Lands by Dave Duncan: Yays, more Dave Duncan and the King's Blades book! It now follows a
younger blades into his life and history of his half-breed genes. So great of a book also.
20. Mossflower by Brian Jacques: I belive this is the prequel to Red Wall and the story of how Red Wall
came about and of the heroic Martin! So the jist is that the mice, squirrels and moles are fighting against the oppression
of the cat princess and her army of weasles.
21. Frankenstein by Mary Shelly: Frankenstein is an awful man and his so called "monster" is the gentlest of
creatures driven to solitude and madness by puny humans and their irrational fears.
22. Charlotte's Web by E.B. White: I cried when I read this book. Fucking sad. I hate sad children books.
23. The Lady of the Sorrows by Cecilia Dart-Thornton: The second book after The Ill-made Mute. Again,
it's very interesting and full of mysteries and adventures.
24. The Battle of Evernight by Cecilia Dart-Thornton: How is it that the gate between the Faery people and the
boring human world? Will all hopes be lost and the lovers will never be united but live to eternity without each other?
It made me very sad because I thought ending was going to be suckie and they will never be united. Generally, I'm not a
sappy person toward these love stories, but this one is so special! They both have to live forever, locked in separate worlds
by some stupid vows and all the while lost all of the other people who they loved most. Not only that, they know that each other
are miserable on the other side! By the way, the love story in here is more heroic than romantic-y crap.
25. Artemis Fowl: The Artic Incident by Eoin Colfer: What a crazy first name the author has! Every once in a while, it's
better to sit down with a good light book full of innocent stealing with the mastermind, uber cool gadgets, plus a little magic.
26. Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer: Is Artemis's memories and contact with the underground Fairy world
erased forever? Of course not, Artemis is too smart for anyone.
27. Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett: Such a funny book of weird things going with the world of weird people.
28. Pyramids by Terry Pratchett: So who would like to enroll in assassination academy?
29. Street Magic by Michael Reaves: Magic in the modern world? Somehow this book combined the weirdest thing together
and I'm not sure if I'm comfotable with it.
30. Holes by Louis Sachar: The adventures of boys in camp torture (that's not what the camp was called, though).
31. Orion by Ben Nova: The gods are playing games.
32. Dawn by Elie Wiesel: An autobiography written about the anticipation and thoughts of a 19 year old boy who was
to excecute an enemy by dawn. Thoughts and feelings on paper better than most people can write even in their most intimate journals.
